Page Rank and backlink checking

One of the key things to good search engine ranking is the Page Rank (PR) status. The Page Rank status is Google’s rank based upon the popularity and significance of links to your site. So a new site with no incoming links starts at zero. Then as people find the site and link to it, its Page Rank increases.

Link trading is one way of getting higher page rankings. Trading links with a PR5 site is a good idea. Trading links with a PR0 (zero) site does not help much. One way to increase page ranks is to use the social networking sites such as del.icio.us or furl.net. You can immediately add your articles in their listings and be seen be a lot of folks. So a link from the del.icio.us site to yours helps your page rank as does the links you may get from being seen.

A tool to check your page rank is simply the Google Toolbar. You can get that with Firefox by downloading it through the link on the right side of this page. But a great tool can be found by clicking on this site. Although the page is in German, you simply enter your URL and hit enter. It gives you a lot of information on who is linking to you and their page ranks.

So work towards optimizing the value of the incoming links to your site. You will find that this will help increase traffic and of course your visibility in the search engines.
